Odin Mead
We’re not here to save the world — just to ferment it.
Forget caped heroes; we’re more into gods doing wild air‑guitar and recipes that sound like scratched vinyl and a well‑played control deck.
With Odin Mead we skip popularity filters and empty posturing to focus on what actually matters: crafting a flavour range optimised for those who’d rather plan an evening of Mansions of Madness than bump into a group of tiktokers at the shopping centre.
User charisma: –1; but hey, you don’t need it to play Diablo anyway.
The unique gods.

Judges at the Queen’s Cup
The “Copa Reina” is one of those places where mead gets serious.
Organised by AESHI (Spanish Mead Association), the Queen’s Cup has earned its place as a benchmark event in Spain thanks to its strict criteria when evaluating mead recipes.
In this tribunal, recipes must be excellent, as the judges apply a technical standard that accepts no beginner quests — only deep organoleptic analysis.
For that reason, we thank AESHI for choosing us as judges in 2021, 2022 and 2023. We may not be the most traditional (in fact, not even remotely normal), but our tasting notes have proven to be a critical hit.

History of mead
Mead isn’t just an inventory item. It’s an ancestral recipe that blends honey and water in a perfect ratio. This drink has appeared throughout the lore of the most mythical and iconic civilisations — from those who crossed the sea in drakkars to those who debated in the agora about whether we’re living in a simulation.
What is mead? What alcohol content does it have?
Put simply, mead is a drink made by fermenting water and honey. Its alcohol content can range from 3% to 16%, depending on factors such as the amount of honey or the type of yeast.
Understanding what mead is means understanding the flavour of a drink that appears constantly throughout history… and fiction. Its relevance has been significant in most ancient civilisations, as well as in countless fantasy novels, series of all kinds, and even video games. Tasting it brings you closer to the cellars of ancient worlds or to interpretations of the gastronomy found in novels like The Lord of the Rings.
What was mead for the Vikings?
For the Vikings, mead had a genuinely important cultural role, consumed both at regular feasts and in sacred rituals. Their mythology was closely linked to this drink, especially through the god Odin — which is why we chose this name for our mead.
Greeks, Romans and Celts considered mead a fundamental element in their mythology. Tasting our mead is like unlocking a historical data file on ancient gastronomy. In Norse lore, it was said that even Odin valued the complexity of this drink, treating it like a collector’s‑edition item within his culture.
Meads reflect a commitment to tradition that has survived every patch in history and rejects generic production. It’s not a pass to Valhalla, but it is an invitation to appreciate detailed, historical and incredibly flavourful craftsmanship — with the patience of someone painting a professional‑level miniature.
The natural fermentation of mead requires patience and precision, almost like building a character from scratch. Waiting is key for each batch to develop its own flavour ecosystem, gaining body and complexity at every stage. When mead is aged in oak barrels, an extra layer of complexity appears: aromas and flavours intertwine with the balance of a perfect crossover.
For the Vikings, mead was a lore‑rich object — a drink for those who appreciate history and stories. It’s the ideal companion for role‑playing your character in a tavern, or for pausing Game of Thrones, refilling the popcorn bowl, and sharing Tyrion’s drink of choice.
Tasting Viking mead is like unlocking an ancient data archive: an encounter with the craftsmanship and beverages of distant times. It’s a gastronomic ode to authenticity and the legacy of ancient masters — an experience that evokes Tolkien’s epic tales or the prose eddas of Snorri Sturluson in every nuance, letting you connect with fantastic and mythological storytelling through your taste buds.
History of mead
Mead has a long tradition and has been consumed in various cultures throughout history, being considered one of the first alcoholic drinks consumed by humans.
Antiquity of mead
It dates back to ancient times, acting as a precursor to beer and considered the original drink. Civilisations such as the Greeks, Romans, Celts, Normans, Saxons and Vikings produced and enjoyed mead.
Importance in different cultures
Mead has been appreciated by many cultures throughout history, each contributing its own way of producing and consuming it, demonstrating its versatility and cultural reach.
Meaning in Norse mythology
In Norse mythology, mead held a special meaning, being the exclusive food of the god Odin. Its importance in this mythology highlights its role as a mythical and revered drink.
Mead preparation
Preparing mead is a process that requires care and precision to achieve a quality result. Every step — from fermentation to ageing — is vital to creating that ancestral drink that, truly, believe us, is worth tasting.
Fermentation process
- The secret of mead fermentation lies in mixing water and honey with ritual‑like precision and in specific proportions.
- Depending on the concentration of water in the honey, fermentation can occur naturally or be accelerated with yeast.
- Controlling temperature and fermentation time is key to defining its character and aroma.
Quality of the honey
- The quality of the honey used in mead preparation determines its flavour and alcohol content.
- Local honey, with its floral and regional nuances, gives the drink its personality.
- Varieties such as lavender or rosemary honey can add different notes and aromas to the mead.
The power of time and the secrets of the barrel
- After fermentation, mead can be matured in oak barrels, gaining aromas and depth that only time can provide. If not, your recipe will need excellent honey or a very good process to do without the barrel.
- Ageing allows flavours to integrate and develop, compensating for the challenge of achieving a delicious nectar through fermentation alone (something that increases the difficulty of the process).
- Adding spices, herbs or fruits is the finishing touch that transforms each bottle into an unrepeatable experience of aromas and flavours.
The resurgence of mead
Mead has made a strong comeback, capturing the attention of those looking for a drink with history — and, of course, a bit of lore. Small producers with deep roots have rescued this ancestral gastronomic gem, giving it new life and vigour in modern times. Its diversity of flavours and its ability to pair with almost any dish have made it the perfect choice for curious palates, warriors and sybarites.
Versatility for pairing with different foods
Mead has proven to be an extremely versatile drink when pairing with different types of food. From fresh, light dishes that awaken the senses to intense desserts like chocolate or caramel, mead always finds its place at the table.
Notable examples of mead’s resurgence in Spain
Hidromiel Odín stands out in this new era with 100% national honey from a beekeeping cooperative, filling bottles with traditional flavours, citrus notes, wildflowers and other elements that speak of gastronomic territory and tradition. This is how it has won over those who refuse to settle for the usual — truly demanding palates.
Mead has returned to stay, reinventing itself and growing without losing its essence or identity, showing what makes it singular and unique. Are you ready to discover it?

In the vast map of fermented drinks, Odin Mead is that easter egg that redefines the meta‑pantry. We’ve taken the classic recipe from level‑1 taverns and applied an innovation buff. Each bottle is the result of combining pure honey with technical processes so precise they’d make a Federation Engineer cry with joy. Here, fermentation is art — an optimised production chain where time and temperature control join forces to offer you a flavour profile more complex than the skill tree of a niche RPG.
Opening one of our meads immerses you in a mix of aromas that balance “old‑world” tradition with a vanguard worthy of a Type‑II civilisation. Odin Mead doesn’t expect you to defeat a red dragon (you don’t live in the Matrix or in a video game), but to be the ideal consumable for those who want to enjoy genuine mead while deploying miniatures, calculating artillery line‑of‑sight or filling in a character sheet for a new role‑playing session.
Odin Mead Special: the ultimate expansion set
In the vast multiverse of fermented drinks, Odin Mead Special is that drop of indescribable cellar rarity that breaks every “gustatory” statistics table. At Odin Mead we’ve designed a collection that pays tribute to the most iconic factions of our favourite mythology, assigning each recipe a flavour profile that would fit perfectly on the character sheet of its great protagonists: critical elderberry‑berry tannin for Thor, stealth‑+100 notes surprising you in Loki’s aftertaste, the duality of sweetness and acidity with Hela, the classic‑lore nuances for Odin; then we have Njord with a hyperspace jump… well, maybe not that much, but plenty of freshness with Njord’s pear and apple; and a Balder with so much raspberry fragrance that even a Guild Navigator would pause their intrigues to savour its aromas.
Our mission has been a high‑difficulty quest: transforming classic concepts into a balanced gastronomic experience. Here, tradition and innovation combine like a good card combo, achieving a result with so much personality that even the Master would copy its nuances for tavern‑menu descriptions.
If you thought mead was a low‑tier cellar item, prepare for a complete rework. This collection is for those who appreciate technical detail, well‑defined tasting notes and, above all, enjoying good company while wargames unfold across the table. It’s not just fermented honey; it’s the premium consumable for your geek sessions when you want mead with serious know‑how in its recipes.
Odin Mead Special doesn’t just carry cool names; it’s a carefully curated selection of recipes with a flavour profile so complex that not even a Bene Gesserit would decipher it on the first try. For those seeking something beyond common mead and who value well‑executed technical craftsmanship, this collection is the perfect DLC. It’s the ideal union between the classic recipe of medieval taverns and quality control worthy of sci‑fi AI.
